Type Locality and Naming

Western Tianshan. The Tulasu Fm was named by Wang Jingbin et al. (1985). The type section is located in Tulasu area of Kokirqin Mountain south of Wutai in Jinghe County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). Lower formation (2 of 6) of Kiaketi Gr).

Synonym: (图拉苏组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Tulasu Fm consists mainly of dark gray or near black thin-bedded argillaceous siltstone and claystones interbedded with sandstone, with laminated bedded and carbonaceous matter in parts. The formation is 104 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformable onto the underlying till of the Kulutielekti Fm

Upper contact

It is conformable or disconformably overlain by the glacial till of the Biexibastao Fm

Western Tianshan. Jinghe County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Fossils

Microplants are Leiopsophosphaera solida, Trachysphaeridium incrassatum, T. simplex, Taeniatum aff. crasum etc.
